Utility Incentives
Many utilities across the country are being encouraged by State governments to produce a proportion of their energy through renewable resources. The States have done their encouragement through a series of fines which the utilities are liable for if they fail to produce the needed percentage of grid-available energy from renewable energy sources. The utilities have created a process whereby they can credit to their grids the solar energy created in your facility. These are called S-RECs (solar renewable energy certificate). These S-RECs are purchased by the utility to hold off the fines being levied by the States. These certificates hold significant value to those energy producers and can often be sold in advance at fixed prices.
